A Little About ME

Wanna know something?  I’ve always wondered why it is so taboo to talk about the simple  or private things that have our country locked in such pointless debates at the moment.  Why two sides can’t just “agree to disagree” while still at least attempting to come to a better understanding of the person “opposing” them. Things which should not matter to another person such as what goes on inside their bedroom, or what they do with their own body have become the topic of “Grand Jury” investigations, becoming suddenly relevant to another person because, why…..? I don’t know, I havent figured that one out yet.  Why is it that two people can no longer debate even heatedly and still respect the other person.  Why our government does horrible things in our name and we go about our business so blissfully ignorant of the things done, allowed, or enabled.  Or how people could be so absolutely cruel to one another, even kill one another.  Or how they can deny us information which is the one thing any “democracy” needs, to function properly, efficiently, effectively.  What about when exactly it was that the almighty $$$ became more important than human life…
I just need to know that progress is the path of the future, because I don’t know how much longer I can live in a world filled with so much pain, greed, and selfish disregard for the wellbeing of others. I’m not saying that I have all the answers, I just have a curious mind.  After all,  I’m just a regular dude searching for the meaning of it all…
"The Badlands"Just Another Day At The Office
While I am just a regular dude, I have very serious passions, dreams and ambitions. I love history, like I’m very seriously and completely in love with history, or the study of history I should say to clarify (side-note: it kinda makes my girlfriend jealous) because not all of it is pretty.  I think that there’s countless examples in any groups history of questionable behavior, not just ours.  Unfortunately the only explanation is the fact that people do ‘effed up stuff to each other sometimes, especially when they know they can.  Just because I don’t agree with many things that have happened at the hands of our government or anyone else in “our” name doesn’t mean I am any less in love with our country than anybody.  Quite the contrary, I care so much that I expect a nation such as ours, to hold itself to a higher standard.  For there to be a hint of truth behind it when, the talking heads to mean it when they say they the USA is the “moral compass” for the rest of the world, leading by example.  Instead, we get Orwellian “doublespeak” and use “freedom” to oppress and “democracy” to control.  I’m just at the point where I have to wonder how much longer can I excuse my own inaction, leaving responsibility to rest solely upon the shoulders of others. The question I would hope I get you to ask yourself is,

HOW MUCH CAN U LIVE WITH?

and what are you waiting for?

      1. I’m interested in American history. I love learning about slavery and post antebullum. And the 1920’s to 1960’s America. I love the rapid progression this country experienced during this period.

      2. Nice! US History is my “shit” too! My main interests are more WWII on, but I’m always game to read a good study on most any period, the more recent stuff just felt more relevant and interesting to me and was less studied to death when I had to do my senior thesis. You have any good recommendations? If you’re interested in slavery and post antebellum, I’d recommend “Been in the storm so long” by Leon Litwack, its a pretty solid study on the aftermath of slavery. (although I’m somewhat partial, he was a history professor at UC Berkeley)

      4. Ah, thanks I’ll check it out. Did you graduate this year? And no, I don’t have any recent stuff. Last semester I did a paper on Mexican immigration and their civil rights movement. That’s a little bit more recent but not much. But deff relevant. haha.

      5. No, actually I graduated way back in 2008, and have been struggling to find my way ever since. I feel old; and I know I miss school every single day, but I’m trying to avoid the whole going to grad school just to go to grad school thing. Had to kinda reconnect with the stuff that interests me, and cut some of the dead weight from my life, but things are on the up and up.
